Counseling Services for Online Students

| 1 minute read

At Southern Miss, we believe your mental wellness is just as important as your academic success, no matter where you’re learning from. Our goal is to help our students thrive during their time with us! Whether you’re taking classes online from your apartment in Hattiesburg or your home in another state, you are part of the Golden Eagle community, and we are here to help you along the way. Let’s talk about what counseling resources are available to you as a fully online student.

🌐 Telehealth Counseling Services for Mississippi Residents

If you’re enrolled in USM classes and live in Mississippi, you’re eligible for Telehealth counseling services. These virtual sessions offer the same care and connection as in-person appointments but from the comfort and convenience of your own space. No need to commute — just log in online to receive the support you need.

How to schedule a telehealth session:

🌎 One-Time Consultations for Students Outside Mississippi

Not living in Mississippi? No problem.

USM students residing out of state can receive a one-time phone consultation with one of our licensed counselors. During this session, you’ll receive:

  • A compassionate listening ear
  • Tailored recommendations
  • Referrals and mental health resources available in your state and local community

We want to make sure you’re connected to care, wherever you are.

🆘 Crisis Support — After-Hours Call Service

All Southern Miss students, regardless of location, have access to our emergency after-hours call service for crisis intervention.

Simply call 601.266.4829 and press ‘1’ any time after business hours or on weekends and holidays to connect with a trained crisis counselor. Our counselors can talk you through the moment, and if necessary, dispatch local emergency services directly to your location.

Your safety and well-being are always our top priorities.

Your Mental Health Matters. Always.

No matter where you’re logging in to class from, USM’s Student Counseling Services is here to support your journey academically, emotionally, and personally.

Don’t wait to reach out. We’re here for you
