Online Student Life: A Club for Education Majors

| 1 minute read

Clubs and organizations are a vital part of college life. They allow students to network, find a community, and be surrounded by peers that have similar interests. At Southern Miss, our online students are not excluded from this beloved tradition! Through our Online Student Life series, we will explore all of the ways you can connect virtually (or physically) with other students in your major.

Up first is the Education Major Student Association (EMSA)!

EMSA is a community-based organization that unifies future educators. It is a way for educators across different disciplines to come together and share resources, insight, and helpful tips.

Below is an interview with the president of the organization, Norah Hammond. If you’re an education major and have an interest in joining a hybrid (in-person and virtual) student organization, keep on reading!

Q. Why should students join EMSA?
A. You get to know so many other education majors! It’s really exciting to see others love what you love!

Q. What are some benefits of the club?
A. Everyone’s favorite benefit is the graduation cord, but also being able to talk to other education majors in different blocks so you know what to look forward to.

Q. What is your club community like?
A. I would almost relate it to a family that constantly is meeting new family or taking more family in.

Q. What are your favorite club activities or perks?
A. Meetings are to the point, and we also get to decide everything!

Q. Is this a resume builder?
A. Yes, because being in an Education Association would stick out to future education employers.

Q. Are there ways to stay in touch with members virtually?
A. We have a GroupMe! Email Norah to be added to the GroupMe.

Q. How long/frequent are meetings typically?
A. We have 4 meetings a semester. Typically one a month, depending on how the semester falls!
