| | 3 minute read

As the world evolves, so does the job market. While we develop new and more exciting ways to use our skills and technology, the market is subject to major shifts. If you’re starting the search for your career, you want to develop the right skills to stand out, and we want to put you on the path to careers in search of someone like you. This is a list, according to LinkedIn, of some of the most in-demand career fields looking to hire you!

Frontline E-commerce Workers

LinkedIn ranks this the number one growing career field. After the pandemic forced many people to their home offices, naturally there has been a rise in Internet activity. That includes online shopping. With the rise in e-commerce, someone with a Logistics Degree may be more important than ever before. Logistics includes everything from order fulfillment, to shipping and delivery, and companies are hiring people to make this as efficient and trouble-free as possible. If you’re looking to stand out in this field perhaps a Logistics, Trade and Transportation MS is right for you!

Healthcare Support Staff

Personal health is always important, and companies are eager to hire people who promote healthy behavior and create policies that benefit the health of everyone. If this is something you’re passionate about, perhaps a Public Health degree is in your future. This can also be your opportunity to move up, if you’re already in the field. For example: med lab technicians may find a number of opportunities opening up with a Med Lab Science BS. Southern Miss offers opportunities to go a step further by getting your Master of Public Health and Med Lab Science MS

Business Development and Sales Professionals

Business professionals may never go out of style. With specializations in General Business, Management, and even Applied Technology, the business sector is a widely versatile profession. It allows you to follow your interests, because every industry needs business-minded professionals. There are a number of ways to boost your understanding of business practices. You can go make your qualifications stand out with an MBA, or specialize in the sports sector with Sport Management MS and Sport Security Management MBA. You can even add to your skillset with a Business Foundations Certificate.

Nurses

The Medical field is so important that it was on the list twice, and probably no one is more important to the health of the population than nurses. When the entire world shut down, nurses remained on the frontline keeping people healthy. If you’re looking to move up in the field, a Nursing RN-BSN degree can help you. You can also take the next step with the first of its kind, Nursing Leadership PhD.

Education Professionals

Just like we always need nurses, we also need educators. Mississippi’s future educators have many ways to break into the field. Teacher assistants can move into their own classrooms with an Elementary Education BS. Southern Miss also offers teachers the opportunity to stand out with the Educational Curriculum and Instruction MEd There are alternate routes you can take if you already have a bachelor’s degree in a different field. The Secondary Teacher Education MAT is designed to get teachers in the classroom in as soon as one summer. There are other opportunities for principals and superintendents with the Educational Administration EdD. And if you’re looking for something at the collegiate level, you can pursue a Higher Ed Student Affairs MEd or a Higher Education Administration EdD.

If you’re interested in any of these careers, now is the perfect time to equip yourself with the skills and the experience to get started or move up. Employers in these industries are looking for people like you, so the best thing you can do is stand out.
