Nursing Education Graduate Certificate

The Nursing Education Certificate from The University of Southern Mississippi will help you share the knowledge and confidence to up-and-coming nurses! This nursing certification allows you to move into a teaching role and make a different kind of impact in the medical community.

This certificate will be open to nurses with bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees who work in staff development at their hospital, or who want to be more prepared for a faculty role in the future. Students in this program will learn how to teach nurses. You will be introduced to new concepts in nursing practice, education, and research. You will learn how to teach and apply that to the skills you’ve already developed as a nurse. With classes in education assessment and evaluation, academic structure, and curriculum development, you can take the next step in your nursing career in only 3 semesters!

Can this program be completed outside Mississippi?

Nurses living outside MS are not eligible to obtain a Nursing Education Certificate because they need to take the NUR 678L-Teaching Practicum. Only nurses living in MS can take practicum courses.

Program Requirements and Academic Policies:

The applicant must hold a baccalaureate, master’s, or doctorate in nursing degree from an institution approved by a recognized accrediting agency.

The applicant must hold an unencumbered registered nurse license.

See General Degree Requirements and General Academic Information for additional information concerning graduate enrollment and general requirements for certificate programs.

Progression Policy:

Progression in the program requires a minimum grade of C in all courses and an overall GPA of 3.0 each semester. Failure to achieve a minimum grade of C in all courses and an overall GPA of 3.0 will deem the student ineligible to progress in the program and the student will be required to withdraw or be dismissed from the program. Students cannot earn a grade of C in more than two courses regardless of the GPA. Receiving the third C will deem the student ineligible to progress in the program and the student will be required to withdraw or be dismissed from the program. Students cannot earn a grade of Cin any course regardless of the GPA. Receiving a C- will deem the student ineligible to progress in the program and the student will be required to repeat the course if eligible. Students cannot earn a grade of D+, D, D, or F in any course regardless of the GPA. Receiving a grade of D+, D, or F will deem the student ineligible to progress in the program and the student will be required to withdraw or be dismissed from the program. Students who withdraw from the program may be eligible for readmission to the program. Students eligible for re-admission will be required to follow the current admission process as new applicants. Should an applicant be re-admitted they will be considered a new student and will be required to complete the entire curriculum.
